Basics of cut-knurling

Cut knurling:

It gets done cutting the material. In this case, knurls work as if they where a milling cutter and the diameter increase is negligible. Besides, the stress stood by the chuck and the center is minimal. Knurls must have sharp edges and cannot ge radially fed but at the beginning of the operation.

 

DIN 82 norm rules the different kinds of knurling that can be achieved on workpieces. If cut-knurling, RKV and RKE patterns cannot be attained.

 

When working with a cut-knurling tool, different patterns can be achieved depending on the used tool and the number of knurls.

Features of cut-knurling:

ejtec7It can be used for knurling tubes, that cannot be form-knurled.

It is compulsory to be used when knurling plastics or foundry, as form knurling cannot make the material flow as much as to form the edges.

 

 

 

ejtec9As the axis of the knurls forms an angle with the axis of the workpiece, knurlings up to a shoulder cannot be done.
